If you installed 7 on a laptop with HD audio (all of the models not more than 4 or 5 years old) and there is not an audio driver available for 7, you should use the Vista version and install by using Vista compatibility mode.

Well, I did just rebuild my system with Ideneb 10.5.6 added my ATI 3450 and ran my ubuntu code dump with AppleHDAPatcherv1.20 and everything seems to work now. Try installing the Sigmatel audio driver in Vista compatibility mode on your system. I am including the Ubuntu text dump in this post. Ubuntu sound worked great on my system and I captured a dump of the codec then tried running it in my Hackintosh (10.5.3) using AppleHDAPatcher versions 1.15 up through 1.20 and still no luck getting sound to work. Isnt there an option to boost the mic by 20dB in the advanced audio settings via control panel (Is in XP with a card with a mic input usually, cant say about Vista or these drivers) Worth a go.
